| Schools’ Fortnight at the Highland Folk Museum 2008 Following the popularity of Schools’ Week at the Highland Folk Museum in June 2007, we will be running this over a fortnight in 2008. While last year’s theme was Pre Clearance Life at the Township, this year we will be offering activities exploring WWII in the Highlands and Life in the Past, both focussed at the Farm end of the site. We would encourage any teachers visiting with pupils for the first time to book a free introduction to the site to help plan the day. We are also encouraging classes who visit to focus on only one or two parts of our mile long site – this year the Farm and perhaps also the School – this is to ensure that your pupils have as positive a visit as possible. At the visit we will provide all pupils with information on the museum’s summer programme to encourage those interested in seeing more to bring their families in the summer. All visits to the Highland Folk Museum are free of charge. 2 June – 6 June 2008: World War II in the Highlands – a week for upper primary classes Sessions will include Evacuee Arrival at the Railway Halt and Exploring Rationing in the Farm Kitchen. 9 June – 13 June 2008: Life in the Past – a week for lower primary and early years classes Sessions will include Washday at the Tin Cottage, Butter making in the Dairy, Corn dollies at the Farm Monday 9 June: Butter making at the Dairy, Corn dollies at the Farm Washday at the Tin Cottage + activities around the Croft Tuesday 10 June Washday at the Tin Cottage, Corn dollies at the Farm + activities around the Croft Wednesday 11 June Rope making and Corn dollies at the Farm + activities around the Croft Thursday 12 June (Fully booked) Washday at the Tin Cottage, Corn dollies at the Farm + activities around the Croft Friday 13 June Butter making at the Dairy, Corn dollies at the Farm + activities around the Croft To book a visit exploring one of the topics above, please call Heather or Maureen at the Highland Folk Museum on 01540 673551.
